Hoggard JROTC Presidential Fitness Test Challenge

A fun, family-friendly fitness event open to everyone – JROTC cadets, students, parents, and the community! Whether you’re already fit or just beginning your fitness journey, this is a no-judgment zone where participation and effort are celebrated.

Location: Scott Braswell Football Stadium – Hoggard High School 4305 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28403 (free parking available directly in front of the stadium)

Why We’re Bringing Back the Presidential Fitness Test

Introduced in the 1950s to promote physical activity among America’s youth, the original Presidential Fitness Test was discontinued in 2013. In July 2025, a new Presidential Executive Order reestablished the test under the renewed President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Hoggard JROTC is proud to host this historic challenge in a fun, supportive, and non-competitive environment for the entire community!

Event Format

Complete 5 classic fitness stations in any order you choose within one hour. Strategy is allowed! You’ll receive a personal scorecard at registration to record your own results (Honor System for everyone – monitors will certify scores for active JROTC cadets).

The 5 Stations

  • One-Mile Run/Walk
    • Three separate heats (9:10, 9:30, 9:50 AM). Complete 4 laps around the Hoggard track. Starting gun and finish-line clock provided
  • Sit-Ups (Curl-Ups)
    • 1 minute A partner can hold your feet. Monitors will demonstrate proper form.
  • Pull-Ups or Hang Time
    • 1 minute Can’t do a pull-up yet? Record your hang time – every second counts and you’ll be cheered on!
  • Shuttle Run
    • Two round-trip sprints (30 ft each way) while carrying a block. Heats run continuously.
  • Push-Ups or Plank
    • 1 minute Standard, knee, or plank – whatever works for you. It’s all about showing up!
