Race Overview:

The North Carolina Assistive Technology Program (NCATP), funded by state and federal sources, hosts an annual Assistive Technology Expo in Raleigh at the McKimmon Conference and Training Center. It’s a public, no-cost event designed for people with disabilities, their families, professionals (like therapists and educators), employers, and anyone interested in assistive technology

The expo features:

A vendor hall with close to 50 exhibitors showcasing AT devices—ranging from speech-generating tech to vision-enhancing technology to accessible software. There will be breakout presentations (including sessions for continuing ed. credits).

How It’s a Hybrid Event
In-person experience: Attendees gather at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh for hands‑on demos, vendor interactions, and live networking.
Virtual participation: Concurrent online access is available—providing remote viewing of presentations for those unable to attend in person.

Why This Hybrid Approach Matters
Accessibility: Ensures participation regardless of location, health, or mobility issues.
Broader reach: Professionals and users across North Carolina can join remotely, while the onsite event supports rich demonstrations and peer connections.
Flexibility: The pre-conference is more interactive to foster in-depth learning, yet the expo’s core content remains inclusive via streaming.

The NCATP Assistive Technology Expo brings together the latest in assistive tech through a welcoming hybrid format—combining the tangible energy of an in-person event with the convenience and reach of virtual access—truly embodying its mission: enabling independence and inclusion through technology.
