Currently, there are no treatment facilities for cancer patients within Laurens County. As a result, our clients must travel to other cities such as Greenwood, Greenville, Charleston, and even out of state for treatment. The frequency of these trips can range from five days a week to once a month, depending on the type and severity of their cancer diagnosis.
These additional travel costs put a strain on many of our cancer patients' already tight budgets. Our fuel assistance program aims to alleviate this financial burden.
The Laurens County Cancer Association is a local non-profit organization that operates independently from any national or state organizations. We rely solely on our own fundraising activities, such as the annual "Run Like a Mann" 5K, support from local businesses in Laurens County, and contributions from foundations and healthcare organizations like Prisma and Self Regional. Additionally, we receive support from many local citizens, clubs, and churches.
