Our why:
If there were ever a person who symbolized light, Sims Vickers was it. He was so kind, caring, outgoing, and fun. Sims’ life ended much too soon on March 27, 2022. After raising over $25,000 for local, caregiving non-profits the past two years, we’re ready to run the Let It Shine 5K again. This event is our attempt to continue spreading light with a world that needs it.
This year, our attention has turned to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Piedmont Columbus Regional – Midtown. It is the only NICU in our region – a Level III, 46-bed NICU – helping babies with health complications to have a fighting chance to thrive. Almost everyone has been touched by or known a family that needed the care a NICU, our local NICU, provides. It is our hope to grow the breadth of care they offer.
In our quest to support the NICU, we are specifically supporting the NICU Fund and the NICU Bereavement Fund of the Piedmont Foundation. The NICU fund, itself, provides for the needs of the babies, their families, and the staff while they are in the hospital. The NICU Bereavement Fund assists with end of life care for families who experience such a difficult end to their NICU journey.
